No Earthly Reason...but...

Photographers will give themselves self-assignments for various reasons. My assignment of taking photos of the Ole Storm Cellar each morning has no rational reason except to note the changing of the year and seasons. A bucket of memories are recalled concerning this cement haven of food and safety. Mother stored all the jams and jellies here and on stormy tornado nights all the family would seek shelter here.

What a difference time makes in life and living. Parents are gone and shelves are empty yet the cement cellar is a safe place in times of storm. That is one of the things I enjoy with clicking the shutter. Related memories are recalled and a unique single second is captured with all complete and incomplete details.

So, here are some unique moments of the Ole Storm Cellar....Rene'

The Sunset

It has been a delightful Memorial Day Weekend and the sunset was the cream in the pail. But, as I hurry out the back door to head for the windmill, there was Ms. Coon begging a slice of bread. Sooo, back to the kitchen for 3 slices of white bread. Now if you happened to be a coon, you would learn to gobble down your slice of white bread very fast, because there are 2 other coons coming up to eat what you haven't gobbled down.
Finally, in the pickup heading for the sunset windmill, I stopped in the road and climbed up in the back to snap the first shot. Wind was galing at 25mph and storm clouds were moving into Oklahoma (we are looking east). Turned around to view the sinking sunset with the Follett elevators in sight.
As the sun dropped below the horizon, I moved into the pasture and faced west for just a simple windmill shot. Later in the studio lab, I noticed the west bound jet above the windmill. In watching jets fly across the vast open Southwest Sky, I often try to imagine who the passagers might be and where they are going and what they are talking about. I am sure no one ever looks out the window from 32,000 feet and sees a photographer standing beside a rustic windmill. But then I think...probably just a FedX plane loaded with packages...grin
From below the windmill, I walk around to catch one more shot of sunny soft clouds as light is fading fast. I pack the camera away and just watch the pastel colors disappear from the sky. There is always time to walk over to the tank and take a cup of cool windmill water as it pulses from the pipe. Just a pleasant way to end a day...A day to remember on this Memorial Day of 2008...Rene'
